Student Activities
The
Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University is regularly
organising Workshops and Seminars CME Programmes for
students in all faculties.
National Service Scheme activities have been started from the year 1991-92 onwards and implemented through the affiliated institutions of this University. 53 N.S.S. Units have been allocated to this University by the State Co-ordinator and Director of Collegiate Education, Chennai, which were redistributed to the 53 affiliated institutions, which have National Service Scheme Units.

Activities
REGULAR PROGRAMMES
Community Orientation Programmes
Campus cleaning in the Hospitals; beatification of
hospitals; Out Patients guidance in the
Hospitals during peak hours ; Hospital services
during emergencies.
Formation of herbal garden, kitchen garden and tree plantation etc.
Conducting awareness programmes on public health , family, planning, Hygiene, Leprosy, AIDS, improvement of status of women, smoking, dowry and untouchability, alcoholism, drug addiction, awareness of nutritional diet and remedies for minor ailments etc.
Health check-up, free Medical camps, Dental check-up for School, children , Health Education and Immunization, Literacy programmes, Blood donation/Eye donation camps, Medical Exhibitions and Rehabilitation for the Handicaps etc.
SPECIAL CAMP PROGRAMME
Each unit of N.S.S. will adopt village/slum nearby to the college. In these adopted villages/slums, 7 days Special Camp will be conducted for scientific assessment of the existing health status of the adopted villages and on the basis of this information, plan will be prepared for regular programme activities.
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS):
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a permanent youth programme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and funded by Government by Tamilnadu and Government of India in the ratio of 5:7. The main objective is to develop the personality of students through community service.
The NSS is body of student volunteers under the leadership of a teacher. The motto of the scheme is ‘education through community service’. Recruitment is made from all the Under Graduate students. Every student member of this scheme should serve at least 2 year with 120 Hours of engagements in community service per year excluding ten days annual camps. At the end of two years of satisfactory service, every student member will be eligible to receive a NSS certificate considered equivalent to a diploma in Social Service. Above all this is an opportunity to realise and serve the community. At present there are 53 NSS Unit in this University.

STUDENTS’ SPORTS & CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
The University conducts Inter Collegiate Sports/Cultural Meet for Medical Colleges, Dental Colleges, Pharmacy Colleges, Nursing Colleges, Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy Colleges by entrusting the work of organising/conducting the Inter-Collegiate Sports/Cultural Meet to a selected institution which will be decided after a Meeting of all Heads of Institutions/Physical Directors/Cultural coordinators of the specialty concerned and after obtaining approval from Governing Council.
The Sports Fee collected from all the students admitted under the affiliated colleges of this University and such colleges funds are being allocated for meeting out expenditures for the purpose of conduct of Inter Collegiate Sports/Cultural Meet.
In the Budget Estimate for 2009-2010 this University has made a provision of Rs.1 lakh towards the conduct of Sports Meet.
