The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University
The Department started functioning from June 2000 and was formed with the primary purpose of keeping the Medical and Para Medical Curricula abreast with the advances in Health Professionals’ Education and aims to develop Need Based Curricula for the Medical and Para Medical Education.
The Department is focusing on Faculty development, as Innovations in Health Professionals Education cannot be implemented unless and until the Faculty are sensitised and trained. The Department is also involved in Capacity building. The trained faculty in addition to acting as catalysts for innovations in Health Professionals’ education also serve as resource persons in their places of work to disseminate the knowledge gained in attending the training programs offered by this department.
To develop joint educational programmes and research on Bioethics, The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and the University of Madras signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 19th April 2004. Under this MoU, a Diploma/Post Graduate course on Bioethics is planned to be introduced jointly by the two Universities. An elective on Bioethics will also be offered to other Post Graduate students of the University of Madras. Joint Research projects would also be developed for extra mural grants and conducted by these Universities in a multidisciplinary way.
