The General Statutes of the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University has  been framed and the authorities have been constituted. Elections are held periodically for various authorities wherever necessary.

 
1. POWERS OF THE SENATE
   a) to review, from time to time, the broad policies and programmes of the University 
       and to suggest measures for the improvement and development of the University.
   b) to advise the Chancellor in respect of any matter which ma be referred by him for
       advice.

 

2. POWERS OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL
   a) To make statutes and ordinances and amend or repeat the same.
   b) To provide for instruction and training in such branches of learning in medical 
       sciences  as it may deem fit.
   c) To hold, control and administer the properties and funds of the university.
   d) To conduct the university examinations and approve and publish the results 
       thereon.
   e) To provide for research and advancement and dissemination of knowledge in 
       medical  sciences and other powers as explained in section 22 of the Tamilnadu 
       Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, act 1987 (Tamilnadu Act 37 of 1987)

 

3. POWERS OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE
   a) to consider and recommend the Governing Council on all matters relating to the 
       finances of the University including raising loan from central or any other state 
       Government or public sector corporation and borrowing of money etc. 
   b) to review the financial position of the university from time to time.

 

4. POWERS OF THE STANDING ACADEMIC BOARD
   a) to make regulations and amend or repeal the same.
   b) to advise the Governing council on the promotion of research of the University and 
   c) to suggest measures for revisions and innovations in academic and research      
       programmes.

 

5. POWERS OF THE FACULTY
   a) to consider and report on any matter referred to it by the Senate, the standing 
       Academic Board, the Governing council or the Vice Chancellor.
   b) to recommend regulations to courses of study and examinations prescribed by 
       the University for consideration by the Standing Academic Board
   c) to remit any matter within purview of the faculty for consideration to a board of 
       studies  and for report.
   d) to hold meetings of the faculty by itself or with any other faculty for discussions on 
       any  matter of common interest.
   e) to consider any report or recommendations of any board of studies.

 

6. POWERS OF THE BOARD OF STUDIES
   a) recommend the governing council persons suitable for appointment as examiners 
       in the subject with which it deals.
   b) recommend text books whenever necessary.
   c) make recommendations in regard to courses of study and examinations in the 
       subject  with which deals.

 

7. POWERS OF THE PLANNING BOARD
    a) The planning board shall, in addition to all other powers vested in it by the act, 
        have the right to advise the Governing council and the standing academic board    
        on any academic matter.
